When you come into Canberra by road from Sydney, the main highway entering the city becomes Northbourne Avenue, which leads to the main Civic centre. Along this road, on both sides, there are many excellent accommodation options. They are conveniently located for visitors wanting to have business meetings with either commerce or industry. There is a great selection of both hotel and motel accommodation to be found here.
The Civic Centre is bordered on one side by Lake Burleigh Griffin and on the western side by the Australian National Botanic Gardens. This is a very pleasant place to stay, which is within walking distance of the main commercial areas, as well as being close to many cafes and restaurants on the lakefront. The great bulk of corporate visitors to Canberra will stay in this region.
Canberra also has several satellite cities that have large commercial areas. These are Tuggeranong, Belconnen, Queanbeyan and Woden. In all of these regions, you can find excellent motel or hotel-style accommodation that is also very close to the commercial centre. Throughout Canberra, you will find many hotels and motels that are operated by the major accommodation groups. Accor Hotels is well represented with hotel accommodation at all levels.
There is a large Formula 1 motel, an Ibis hotel, as well as a top-of-the-range Novotel resort hotel. Rydges hotels, Crowne Plaza, Country Comfort and Quality hotels are all represented here. If you need apartment-style accommodation for a longer stay, you should choose either Breakfree Capital Towers or Mantra on Northbourne.
If you are coming to Canberra when the Federal Parliament is sitting, it is wise to make your accommodation arrangements in Canberra as early as you possibly can.
