Why July to September stands out

July and August are the driest months, with about 48 mm of rain and only 6 to 7 rain days, and August has the most sunny days at 28.8. Daytime maximums sit around 16 to 17 degrees, so you will want a jacket, but you still get the sunshine. September is similar on rain, at 52.4 mm, and warms to a 19.9 degree maximum.

Months to be wary of

February is the wettest month, with 100.5 mm over 11.3 days. March has the most rain days at 12.0. January and February are the warmest months, so they suit anyone chasing hot beach weather, though winter has fewer rain days. We reckon April, May and October give a good balance of mild temperatures and moderate rain.

Free and low-cost sights in Terrigal

The Skillion

The Skillion is a promontory with a view over all of Terrigal. It is a sedimentary rock formation from the Triassic Period, and the council has rehabilitated it in recent years. The far side has an extremely steep hill that locals and visitors use for exercise. It sits on a preserved area of land known as The Haven.

Terrigal Boardwalk

The Terrigal Boardwalk opened on 14 April 2021. It links Terrigal Beach, the rockpools, the boat ramp and The Skillion, so it makes an easy walking loop between several of the free sights. It drew controversy when it was built, but it is a handy connector.

Lagoon, beach and memorial

Terrigal Lagoon is an intermittently closed saline coastal lagoon, popular for kayaking and paddleboards. The Terrigal Foreshore War Memorial, redeveloped in 2019 from two older memorials, is a quiet place to stop. The Haven has a public oval, a boat ramp and a small number of cafes and restaurants, kept few by tight development restrictions.
