North Coast

The New South Wales north Coast region includes the area from Port Macquarie to Tweed Heads and Kingscliff and all the coastal ciies and towns in between, it also includes Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island which are both officially part of New South Wales. This area is one of Australia’s most sought after holiday destinations and features miles and miles of magnificent coastline featuring an endless array of some of the world’s best beaches. Port Macquarie has developed into a vibrant holiday destination featuring a range of new apartment buildings and excellent resorts. The Port Macquarie area features excellent beaches, great shopping, a range of restaurants and cafes and a wonderful holiday ambience. It can be accessed by air from Sydney and or Brisbane or by coach as the Pacific Highway runs beside the town. There is also a range of national parks nearby giving the holiday maker the opportunity for day trips, picnics, bush walking etc. Port Macquarie lies on the estuary of the Hastings River and this wonderful location is a Mecca for boating, sailing and fishing. The region is also popular as a destination or stopping off-point for yachts cruising along the coast. Lord Howe Island is less than two hours by air from either Brisbane or Sydney and is one of the world’s most beautiful Islands. The lagoon is fringed by the southern most coral reef in the world and the island itself features two towering mountains which overlook a panorama of ocean, farmlands and a coral lagoon. Balls pyramid, the highest single rock in the world can be seen in the distance. World Heritage listing ensures the pristine beauty of Lord Howe will remain for generations. This is a slow paced destination where the bicycle is king and every corner provides access to another beach, cove or panoramic vista to delight the holidaymaker. Norfolk Island is part of the history of Australia from its earliest colonial days when the island was used as a penal colony. As a direct result of this the visitor will see the ruins of the original colony and understand what hardships the original inhabitants went through. Norfolk Island is an external territory under the authority of Australia but with its own legislative assembly, police, customs and quarantine.
