The magic at Merimbula begins with its beaches. Lagoon, lakes and ocean are separated by white sand that is fringed by unspoilt bushland. The area is also famous for its fishing which is popular from the beach, in the estuary or from the decks of one of the local charter boats. Local restaurants and cafes are famous for serving the local catch fresh from the boat. Bermagui is also regarded as a fisherman's paradise. Zane Grey placed Bermagui on the global fishing calendar and established the birthplace of game fishing in the 1930's. The area is famous for its marlin and swordfish fishery and many keen sports fishermen visit regularly to try their luck.

Eden is situated just north of the Victorian border and is a town steeped in history. Its early history is enmeshed in the whaling industry and Twofold bay was the scene for many mighty tussles with the migrating humpback whales. There is a magnificent museum in Eden devoted to these early days and it is a must see exhibit. Today the local whale watching industry replaces this and delights the crowds of visitors who experience this modern phenomenon. In Eden it is now common to see many species of whale which include humpbacks, killer whales, sperm whales, minke whales, Bryde's Whale and Southern Right whales.
