Hunter Valley

Located on The Hunter of NSW, the The Hunter Valley is world renowned as one of Australia’s leading wine producing areas and the regions tourist attractions mostly centre on this industry. Holiday makers will discover a multitude of cellar doors, restaurants, resorts and attractions that will delight the imagination and provide numerous opportunities and excuses to sample the local produce. The wine growing areas centre around the Pokolbin and Rothbury regions and extend into the Cessnock, Mount View, Wollombi Valley and Lovedale / North Rothbury areas. The Lower Hunter region is very close to Newcastle and the towns of Kurri Kurri, Cessnock, Maitland and Singleton are the major centres of commerce. The Upper Hunter extends north to the Barrington tops and includes the towns of Gloucester and Dungog.

A holiday in The Hunter Valley is a relaxing and rewarding experience. Hunter Valley Accommodation is abundant and ranges from hotels and motels through self contained holiday apartments and cabins, quaint bed and breakfasts through top of the range resorts.

It is not hard to find a different restaurant for every meal or a day spa to relax those overworked muscles after a day of golf, tennis or elbow bending while tasting the multitude of offerings from the local vintages. There are also many other attractions in the area that are a must see. After five years of development Hunter valley Gardens is fast becoming one of Australia’s most significant tourist attractions, with over 25 hectares of superbly manicured gardens surrounded by luxury accommodation, a boutique shopping village, Harrigans Irish pub and magnificent Hunter Valley Vineyards.

There are over 100 vineyards and cellar doors to visit in the region some of which are icons in the industry. Many produce wines of world wide prominence and others produce quaffers of excellent quality for the bulk market. You could never sample them all if you devoted your entire life to the quest so we suggest you start with the best known and work outwards from there. Some of the giants of the Hunter Valley include Wyndham Estate, Tulloch Wines, Tyrrell’s Vineyards, Lindemans Winery, De Bortoli Wines, McGuigan Cellars, Hungerford Hill, Rosemont Estate, Draytons Family Wines and McWilliams Mount Pleasant Estate.
